Just like the last time I got a haircut, I've had the urge dress slighly more manly-ly. This pretty much just involves collared shirts and pants.

Except, no wait, I'm not wearing a collared shirt here. Anyways, I usually don't post on certain days of the week because on those certain days, I only have one morning class and... don't really feel like thinking of what to wear. *gasp* On those days, I'm pretty much wearing something simple like this.

I like the look of puffy/furry vests over up top of blazers (as Gap usually does so prodigiously with their runway styling). This one is a bit bulky though.

So I was just having a conversation about gift giving, which tangentially reminded me that it's been a while since I've expressed my insatiable lust for material goods. Even though I don't believe in the holiday season starting until Black Friday. However, I am also avoiding work.

As usual, Etsy is a swirling instigator of said lust. Mostly for some of the in-sane vintage shoe selections some sellers have out right now. Check out these animal-print beauties:

All from James Rowland Shop. Rather pricey, but. Incredible. The whole shop is extremely covetable; these are the kinds of sellers that make me wonder where they pick their goods up in the first place.

Left: Zebra fur print, pointed toe, winkle picker style from Time Echo Vintage. Pretty much everything I could ever want from a shoe. I'd possibly be getting out my credit card now if they were in my size. Damn every shoe-that-is-not-my-size. *shakes fist*

Right: Not always a fan of slip-ons, but these lacy doily ones from seller GoodEye are bizarrely appealing. I don't know, maybe because they remind me of these embellished Keds I saw a while ago in a Baltmore vintage store. There's something endearing about hand-made doilies and beading on shoes.

But let's move away from shoes for now. I think most of the blogosphere knows of Yokoo, though I've never brought up her knitting majesty.

Her hats and scarves remind me that it will, one day indeed, get cold around here, even though right now it's friggin' 70 degrees in November. Mmm, Sweetheart Chain... chain link knit scarves are still all the rage, at least in my mind.

Since I didn't post yesterday, you get two outfits jammed into one post!

Yesterday I went to a fashion photo exhibition opening called Immortal Style! Basically the space featured some works from local fashion photographers. Part of Foto Week DC, a week-long DC photo fest.

As usual, I had trouble coming up with what to wear, since party-type dress usually involves not-so-many layers.

Oh, and also, I got my hair cut. Right at the peak of people of the coming up to me and saying, "I saw someone in ______ place with the same hair as you!" period. I realize I'm getting rid of my "trademarked" rip-off style and now no one will recognize me anymore but, hey. I do what I wan'.

Pros of hairstyle: For the first time in years, I have my full range of vision returned to me, now that bangs aren't blocking the tops of my eyes. It was, funnily enough, discombobulating at first. Like, I got dizzy while driving.

Cons: Hair no longer disguises my huge, chronic, purple eye bags.

Hair does not, however, make my head look huge, as this picture suggests. I'm just leaning against a wall.

Met cool local artist BK Adams, asked to take a picture with him. Failed Blue Steel attempt part 2. Arggg eye bags.

There were a bunch of people there with great personal style. I did not get any good pictures, unfortunately.

I wasn't really what the lyrics were to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" until I heard it being sung on South Park. What, this was the first thing that popped into my mind.

Alrighty, extremely vague throwback to Halloween, in that I am wearing black lipstick. I would like to wear it more often, but since it's kind of a pain to put on and maintain over the course of the day, I can't be bothered most of the time.

Also working in this furry sweater I received a while ago from my former employer. I was thinking of the whole gorilla arms thing back then, which was all the rage. The rage lasted for about a minute, but I can still dig it, dammit.

Also formerly trendy: this no-longer-available Peeps skirt, which I ALSO still dig. But rarely wear. Alas.

On the bright side, I'm finally breaking out of my plaid fixation! I think!

I live!! And sorry, I have failed. I failed to do anything for Halloween. In my defense, this year's Halloween was uneventful anyways, relatively speaking. I mean, c'mon, Heidi went as a friggin' crow? Compared to Shiva the Destroyer last year? Taaame. In the meantime, I sat on my ass and ate fair amounts of chocolate liquor candies.

Anyways, my excuse for not posting this past week is busyness. Back to our regular scheduled programming.

Aaaand nothing changes. Still having a thing for plaids.

What more can I say? I guess this is the first time I've worn a vest over a jacket.

The only thing remotely Halloween-y going on here is that it gave me an excuse to paint my nails black. I've refrained from doing this for two years, and it's totally passé now, and I do not care.

More wardrobe digging -- this H&M coat is great lookin', but it's thin as paper. Also, everyone has it.

Photo context: this was right after one of my late classes, and I set my camera up in a seemingly empty hallway. The second I pressed the timer, someone came walking down the hall. In a sad attempt to save face, I sort of leaned against the wall awkwardly in hoping he wouldn't notice the camera sitting there. And, that is my current shoddy school bag.

Of course, he left soon thereafter.

Last night, I tried for the 3rd time to mix me some Chanel Jade nail polish... and once again, I ended up with a soapy color. I think it's because I'm missing a white polish. Really, mixing nail polish is similar enough to mixing acrylic paint -- it just dries much faster and stinks much more like a mofo.

Anyways, I feel a certain joy wearing pants. The vest is extremely tight, it feels more like a corset. It's tight in the chest, which is something I thought I could never say about an article of clothing.

This girl in one of my classes was like, "You should have a blog where you tell everyone where you get your clothes!" To which I replied, "Uhhh actually, I kinda have one..." and left it at that. I dunno, maybe it was standoffish to not give her the url, but. I feel odd. Although, girl, if you've found it by now, ...hello!

Oh, and these sunglasses -- just got them today from the folks at Gilt Groupe! From the Dries van Noten SS 08 runway, by Linda Farrow. The whole cat-eye aviator thing going on is pretty neat, though I don't think it fits my face very well. Or.. hair or something.

Yessiree, post #500! To commemorate this achievement, I am... posting this outfit earlier than usual. Damn straight I am.

Did some closet digging and decided that I have not worn this jacket and these DIY'd leggings in a while. The reason for the leggings is because, while they are attention-getting, they feel like tiny pebbles slowly sanding off your already peeling skin. So, you know, uncomfortable. Also, all the terrible sewing errors I made back then are revealing themselves more and more with rippage.

In the meantime I threw some animal prints in there.

So in my design classes, the professors occasionally make fashion references (which is to be expected)... today, one of my profs was talking about integrating logo design with web site design or something. She said something along the lines of, "They don't have to match per se, but they do have to 'go' together, like you can wear a brown shirt and.... not necessarily brown shoes. But they still go together." ...I felt that if she could transport thoughts into my mind, she'd be saying, "you do that with what you're wearing, so why not with your friggin' design..."

They're different I tell you!!

I just realized, this is my 499th post. The next one will be #500. Part of me wants to do something about it... and part of me knows it'll just be the next daily outfit post.

I think I was getting more "crazy cat lady" looks than usual, though not like I haven't pulled that in the past. Might be the glasses. My contacts have been itching me.

The rainbow layers have more to do with the weather being cold and me just arbitrarily piling them on. Although, my photo class did do this portrait session, and all I had to do was stand there awkwardly instead of being forced to take posing directions 'cuz they were distracted by the clothing anyways.

Joelle asked me what I was looking for so maybe I could get some suggestions on where I could go -- mainly a big leather bag that's sturdy enough to carry a laptop and books with a long strap (messenger style or otherwise). Something with a basic shape, but in an interesting texture of color. I feel like I'm describing the PS1 here. Except I can't afford that. Ho Ho.

Sooo I was perusin' this post on Fashionista.com about Benetton. In that "why the hell not vein", I usually check out their seasonal releases because every season, they manage to employ an advertising trick that makes their clothes look appealing.

They just make really effective styling choices. Like these nudes and neutrals with neon pink. Arggg, neutrals and neon. And knit!

On the left, diggin' the quilted sleeves, reminds me of Phi F/W '07 (I'd say with this, it's almost straying into rip-off territory, actually...)

On the right, I feel like neon shiny puffer jackets are generally a Bad Choice in real life, but they just styled this one here so damn appealingly. It makes me wonder why I don't have a grey knee-length knit skirt yet. Indeed, why not.

And on the subject of appealing:

I know Benetton often tries to be controversial in their ads, but I don't think they deliberately went for it in these two (separate) ads. I mean, they're delightful...

While we're STILL on the subject, might as well throw in a couple more coveting things:

Anyways, my current school bag is a sad sight to behold, and I'd very much like to look for a new one. I'm wondering, though, if I should try to look around heres (which I have been.. for half a year) for a big bag, or wait 'til I get to Italy, the "place where there are bags everywhere" apparently. If you've been to Italy and know of these things, I'd love to hear your comments. And another thing: I'd probably be magically more willing to drop dolla billz on a bag abroad. Nonetheless:

Oh, snap. I could see my breath this evening.

Oh yeah, and to address a couple questions that I've failed to get back to:

- Yes, I usually knot my skirts (as shown here, for instance). I don't bother sewing it because who knows, you might wanna wear it unknotted??
- I wear these zebra sandals (last image) a lot on days where I'm not doing an outfit post. Regardless, I got 'em at Nordstrom Rack.
- Uhhh I think that's it if I'm not forgetting something.

Yeah, so, pattern mixing + masses of color above and below. Not really much else to it.

Although you know what was fun, taking off the thigh highs for driving. Yes, after a 3+ year saga, I finally have my driver's license. And since I'm not accustomed to driving at all, I have to keep some flats in the car because the pedals feel funky with heels on. You don't have to go through these lengths for public transportation. :'(

Anyways, I haven't deliberately gone for the All Black Brigade for a while, but maybe because Halloween is also approaching or what not IdunnomaybeIwasinaHalloweenymood *breathe*. Not that it's all black -- there are some white shreds and silver bits peeping out over here.

Without the furry vest, it looks slightly less Halloween and more totally cyber '80s!

I haven't worn jL's Silver Spartans enough to give it justice, or these Yohji for Adidas platform sandals. Turns out, they look pretty interesting worn together! I am personally a fan of the back of my own legs here.

This was also my first unintentional foray into *sigh* leggings as pants. I wore a black slip to try to cover my junky-trunk, but it kept twisting up. Luckily the harness provided a good distraction.

Yeah, so some of you may have noticed that in a startling display of least-relevant-picture-ever, I was in a little thumbnail on the front of the Style section in the Washington Post yesterday (today? Monday?) It was supposed to be about the "Real Housewives of DC"... something I thought I'd never mention on this blog, but there you go. Moving on!

After a year of endless yearning, I finally got my grubby paws on some thigh high boots this weekend! Man, they are friggin' everywhere this season. Which is good in that at least there are cheaper knock-offs everywhere.

Not quite as leg-fitting as I would've liked -- they're a bit slouchy. But they work.

I think I was trying to "werq it" and then I just ended up with a snotty facial expression.

In other news, knotted up red plaid, faux fur and green. I think I had Viv Westwood on the brain, and turned out this mall version instead.

Sooo, the Washingtonian Style Setter's party was the other night. T'was quite interesting -- truth be told, I would've totally floundered had I not had a couple of accomplices to help overcome my utter schmoozing inadequacy. Anyways, party, hence what I'm wearing:

Dressing for parties is always a predicament. Layers casual-ify things; I have a hard time just sticking to one singular piece. So I just went hipster/Charlie Brown/Big Bird. At any rate, I think this is one of the only pictures where I don't look completely like a drunken 'queen. The Absolut Vodka sponsorship really doesn't help things.

Two high schoolers with their favorite drag entertainer. The hair took five minutes and half a can of hairspray in one of my college building bathrooms. Hence why it looks a lot more "nesty" than I would've liked. Others seemed to be fond of it though.

Coming from an outsider (aka.. someone who doesn't go to parties), it felt a bit like prom in the beginning, except with large projections like this:

After a while though, the prominess faded and I learned a lesson in networking. Aren't I great at describing parties?

I only posted this picture because of the stoplight cocktails. You know, green, yellow, red light? Get it? Yeah?

Brrr. Every year, I always long for that crisp, yet still pleasantly warmish fall weather. And every year, I always come to the realization that that doesn't exist.

I haven't been in a cardigan mood these days, yet that's all I seem to be wearing recently. Which is odd, because you'd think it'd be blazer time right now, but I exhausted all that during the summer. Hahaaah.

Anyways. Going all bright and pattern-y. I keep holding that purple furry stole thing because it's so friggin' soft. I say I hunted down the Energizer Bunny to get it.

I think I look like I'm in high school.

It's Saturday night and it's raining, so what better opportunity to talk about... people talking about me? Hahahah.

So, a couple of months ago, I was invited to be in the Washingtonian, a local mag. Specifically, their "Style Setters" feature in their October issue!

'Twas only in print. The experience was pretty fun: the people at the mag got a few other participants together at a time for a photoshoot. Aside from individual photos, I was also shot with two dudes named Jim and Pepper, which did not make it in the mag.

"Behind the scenes" screenshot. They were saying they wanted to take my hat and sleeveless coat-thing, to which they are demonstrating here.

It's already been a few times that people have wanted to take my picture, but for some reason, it's much more relaxing shooting at a studio location than say, outdoors. Probably because it's easier to act silly and do lame "working-it" poses inside than out in public.

Here I popped my collar, and then proceeded to get that dirt off my shoulder.

Oh, hey guys, it's already the 24th. And, FALL!!! Among other things.

So maybe today I was feeling a bit... Wicked? Got some green fishnets from We Love Colors out of curiosity, but I didn't expect them to be... this green. If it works, it works.

Probably incorrect choice of footwear, it kind of adds to the witchyness. On another note, it occurs to me that there are so many great supplies in the abandoned workroom I usually use for these pictures, and I never mess around with them. Like this clear plastic triangle! That will change starting... now.

It's hard to decide what "tone" of picture to use.

I may seem like I've been living under a rock, but yes, I have been on the gravy trains that are Fashion Week starting (and... NY ending) and Project Runway. Admittedly, I'm no longer refreshing the page the minute Marc's show begins and am watching episodes of PR from the DVR and not *gasp* live, but hey.

My condensed feelings (courtesy of style.com link abuse): Marc was good, Preen was good, Rodarte was good repetitiveness as usual, Calvin Klein was appealing, Toni Maticevski was purdy, everyone and their dog had my hairstyle (or rather, Tao's hairstyle), threeasfour was a good Balmain ripoff, everyone else was a bad Balmain ripoff. And except for the last challenge last episode, all the PR judges are smoking crack.

Whew. Moving on.

On the subject of Rodarte, it feels good to pull out this ripoff knit again. I've definitely worn variations of this in the past, but this time it includes faux fur!

Extremely faux: small tufts resembling hair plugs kept falling off. Well worth the $13 at H&M.

Glorified Patchwork Part II

Those that have been reading me for a loooong time will know that once upon a time, I failingly tried to panel some denim. And so, because I just couldn't get enough fail last time, I attempted it again at the Weardrobe Conference.

Pacsun sponsored a "DIY denim challenge" at a nondescript studio location. We were given stacks of Bullhead skinny jeans in various washes, studs, grommets and other embellishments, a needle and thread and an extremely crappy pair of scissors.

Now, Pacsun is a chain that I had most fondly associated with my middle school days, aka "The Dark Ages". However, I was pleasantly surprised by some of their offerings.

I chose to work with these "Future Favorites" bleached and ripped jeans.

And this time, I actually got to cut 'em up! I chose a dark grey pair for the "panels":

Hence the sewing process began. By hand. It was arduous.

Of course, two hours later when the event wrapped up I hadn't even half finished. However, because I was on a roll, I did something I almost never do: continued working at home. Good thing too, because the two hours' work I did at the DIY session I achieved with better results with a sewing machine in 15 minutes.

Yep. Sloppy results again, but perhaps almost -- dare I say -- wearable? At the very least, I can bend my knees.

Also wore them for a test spin at Target, where I simultaneously checked out the Anna Sui for Target line and got recognized by a reader. Holla!

Frig. I think I lost the blazer I was wearing today.

Noooooo!!! I've been losing a shit ton of things recently, from wallets to accessories to expensive electronics... I guess it's about time it moved on to clothes. Just got this blazer over the NYC weekend, too. Arrgghhhhh. The frustration.

Sunglasses: need to stop wearing in every picture. Heels: part of the Weardrobe goodies! From Seychelles (the shoe brand, not the charming islands off the eastern coast of Africa).

Of course, afterward I got senile again and unbelted and de-heeled. I'm slacking in more ways than one, really.

Arg, too many things in limbo right now. Time to get cracking!

But first, an outfit post.

I'm not really fond of "looks like pajamas" outfits anymore, but I pulled this one out because I wanted to pile on the neutrals with neon. Still stuck on neon and neutrals. I know the sunglasses are the only thing keeping it from going too frou-frou. Should've also worn heels too, but I was feeling senile.

The layers in the middle are comprised of a crop top, a neon yellow tank top tied up, and a crochet scarf from Shop Ruche, one of the sponsors from the Weardrobe Conference! I dunno, I still find tying random bits around me entertaining.

Time to get back into the swing of things! Eventually.

I swear, my hand is only near my face because my hair was sticking up!

Us Weardrobe peeps didn't get to do much shopping in New York, but one of the days we headed over to Brooklyn for some secondhand shop perusin'. These pants are one of my yieldings.

I like the heavy, muted gold brocade fabric and the big 'ol flare. Because of that I somehow remind myself of an intergral symbol (∫) in this picture. Yes!? I seem to be on a math-roll recently. This is the only nature in which I think about math these days.

I dunno, whenever I wear a different sort of pants, I feel new again. Not really in the mood to go crazy.

As an aside, to continuously remind myself to do that Weardrobe recap, here are some pics of the other stuff I bought in Brooklyn. Striped linen blazer (the patriotic kick continues), ruffled plaid skirt dress thing.

As another aside, on the first day of the conference, a new street style photographer who called himself Mr. Newton shot us for his blog. He made us jump in a group shot, which kind of had an unintentionally hilarious effect on my hair and sunglasses. Everyone else looked really good though!

Weardrobe: the Hazy Aftermath

Hello everyone, I have crashed and burned. Half the things here I ~~stole~~ ~~begged for~~ borrowed, the other half I wore to sleep the night before.

Still too scatterbrained to write a coherent recap post, but here was generally the way I saw the Weardrobe Conference... It was as if each of us were plucked out of the context of day to day goings on and into a bubble where suddenly your blog is your self and everyone has a similar understanding of each other. Amazing and surreal, to say the least.

For lack of anything else substantial to talk about at the moment, here's a "look what I got!" post. The Weardrobe team (consisting of Suz and Rich, ya'll were so sweet ♥) painstakingly planned out every detail of the conference, and while some of the plans fell through the cracks, they wrasseled up a group of sponsors who were kind enough to host events and hand out free swag.

Some kewlio t-shirts (including the Cheap Monday one I'm wearing in the first pic), tights, fabric necklace thingys, sunglasses, gift cards, book(s), nail polish, thongs (...)

Shoooooes. And a big 'ol candle.

Of particular interest: Knock Out Cosmetics gave us some "Flatte" nail polish, which is what it sounds like: polish with a matte finish. I applied some Flatte Top, which is a matte-inducing topcoat to my preexisting Sephora by OPI glinty aqua nails -- now instead of super shiny, they are a dull sheen. Tons of potential with this!
